Inner West Council

Irony Mark Films // 2016

David’s partnership with the Inner West Council began with the Gadigal Wangal Wayfinding Project – a commission of five art installations along the Greenway by Indigenous artists, in which they were invited to respond to site-specific research and depict an element of the rich and unique Gadigal and Wangal culture. David was brought on as both videographer and photographer to capture significant moments in the creation of each piece.

In 2021, the Inner West Council received the prestigious Leo Kelly OAM Arts and Culture Award for the Gadigal Wangal Wayfinding Project, recognising councils that have excelled in strategic policy, planning, delivery and evaluation in arts and culture.

David is grateful for the opportunity to document this fitting tribute to over 60,000 years of Aboriginal history in the Inner West, and to work with the Indigenous artists carrying that legacy onward into our future. Special thanks go to Bronwyn Tuohy and Auntie Deborah Lennis, as well as all the artists: Blak Douglas, Joanne Cassady, Edward Clarke, Joe Hurst, Kevin May, Tim Phibs, Jasmine Sarin and PJ Simon.

Additionally, David documented the installation of Jasmine Sarin’s Aboriginal Survival Memorial in Camperdown Memorial Park, the installation of the Chiaroscuro artwork in Leichhardt, and partnered with the council-run Spark Youth Theatre to document their work connecting local young people to the arts community.
