Crossing The Lines (Book)

Newcastle University and Flambard Press, 2011

David’s short story ‘Shards’ was selected as a finalist for the 2011 UK International Student Short Story Competition, during his time at the University of East Anglia, and printed in the anthology Crossing The Lines. The book was edited by Jackie Kay and Kachi A. Ozumba, and is available from Amazon.

With contributors from five continents, Crossing the Lines showcases new writing by international students living in the UK. Every year thousands of people travel from all over the world to study here, bringing together a wide range of cultures and backgrounds, and this collection features the 14 best stories from the International Student Short Story Competition run by the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts (NCLA). These narrative voices explore a wide variety of social challenges and personal dilemmas, as writers from as far away as Nigeria, Australia and Malaysia share their impressions and experiences of life at Britain’s universities.

Fresh and diverse, the anthology makes a valuable contribution to the existing literature about the UK international student experience, providing insights that will be of benefit to schools, agencies and prospective international students, while retaining appeal for readers looking for an insight into the lives of others.
